Tamegroute Pottery Bowl (medium)

Tamegroute is a village located in the Draa River valley in southern Morocco., just before the immense Sahara. In the Berber language, Tamegroute means ‘last place before the desert’.

The color and texture is a result of the particular alchemy created by the potters of Tamegroute and remains a family affair handed down through the generations as each pottery piece is completely unique and no two are ever the same. Tamegroute pottery are true showpieces showing that even imperfect can be perfect. Please note that the traditional method in which the plates are fired involves stacking which result in tiny 'scars' in the glaze making each plate unique. Each of these beautiful pieces are found and hand select by me during my sourcing trips throughout Morocco. This newly made piece was designed by Afous Ghoufous, or hand in hand Cooperative a village outside of the city of Ouarzazate in southern Morocco. I began working with the ladies here at the cooperative in early 2019 after a sourcing trip to Ouarzazate. When we collaborate on designing a piece a portion of the proceeds from purchases go directly to the weaver and the group fund in order to build more space and programs for other women to work.   In this region, they use natural wool and dyes such as Turmeric and pomegranate skin to create beautiful shades of yellow.  Also, onion or hibiscus to create the shades of pinks and reds to Pine used to create the shades of brown
