Tamegroute is a village located in the Draa River valley in southern Morocco., just before the immense Sahara. In the Berber language, Tamegroute means ‘last place before the desert’.The color and texture is a result of the particular alchemy created by the potters of Tamegroute and remains a family affair handed down through the generations as each pottery piece is completely unique and no two are ever the same. Tamegroute pottery are true showpieces showing that even imperfect can be perfect. Please note that the traditional method in which the plates are fired involves stacking which result in tiny 'scars' in the glaze making each plate unique. Layla- Meaning meaning ‘darkness and intoxication’, has featured in a plethora of romantic Arabic poems. As, for each piece that I hand select during my sourcing trips brings a feeling or reminds me of a place and low pile vintage boujaad piece reminded me of traveling through Morocco and the intoxicating way this beautiful country has on ones life.This piece is a mix of reds, browns and black showing the weavers free spirit as the pattern is one I have never seen before. ABOUT MOROCCAN RUGS: Moroccan rugs are hand woven by Berber women of the tribal region specified. Each rug can take a few months to year to complete. The weaving techniques have been passed down through the generations. From modern designs to vintage abstract form this is a way the Berber women carefully preserve their heritage of technique and knowledge passing down messages in wool from one generation to another creating textiles full of life and charm. How to stuff:Insert not included; we recommend carefully stuffing with a standard down bed pillow or 19" x 24" pillow insert. For a more eco friendly filling, we suggest using extra linens or other fabrics you have laying around the house to stuff your pillows or floor cushions Spot clean or Dry Clean Only
How to stuff: Product is shipped unstuffed. Can be stuffed using an economical way by using old clothing or bedding material such as comforters and blankets. For a firmer support, a foam insert can be used. We use TWO memory foam pillows to create a firm top and a comforter.
Each of these beautiful pieces are found and hand select by me during my sourcing trips throughout Morocco. This newly made piece was designed by Afous Ghoufous, or hand in hand Cooperative a village outside of the city of Ouarzazate in southern Morocco. I began working with the ladies here at the cooperative in early 2019 after a sourcing trip to Ouarzazate. All proceeds from purchases go directly to the weaver and the group fund in order to build more space and programs for other women to work. In this region, they use natural wool and dyes from Turmeric and pomegranate skin to create beautiful shades of yellow.
